6. Groundhog Day
Groundhog Day is a film that already exists. It is perfect. Bill Murray is perfect in it and Harold Ramis wrote and directed it perfectly. Its perfect. Again, though its domestic cinematic gross of $70 million is small fries compared to what a big comedy hit can make nowadays, it was a sizeable success then and remains so now. The universal love for Groundhog Day could be enough to convince executives to try and milk more money out of the property by remaking it. But how could they? Due to the nature of the film, weve already seen its story told numerous times in several different ways. Weve witnessed Bill Murray live the events of Groundhog Day again and again. 38 times
to be precise. It's a film that remakes itself as it goes along. Murray and Ramis wrangled every last joke out of that premise. Theres no need to tell us that story again. Although theres no shortage of comic actors and comedic screenwriters these days, there's no pairing in cinema today could match the number of laughs that Ramis and Murray managed to find in Groundhog Day. So please, Hollywood, dont try.
