10 Scandals Disney REALLY Wants You To Forget
9. John Lasseter’s Sexual Misconduct Allegations
Late last year Toy Story director and (until very recently) chief creative officer of Disney and Pixar’s animation studios John Lasseter announced he’d be taking a six-month sabbatical amidst reports of sexual misconduct against his fellow employees which he rather flippantly referred to as ‘missteps’ in an office memo.
Allegedly, Lasseter has trouble recognising physical boundaries and inappropriately touched female employees on several different occasions. His reputation was reportedly so bad that he had to have his own team of handlers whose job it was to keep his behaviour in check.
Did Disney – a family-friendly company with a supposedly solid moral core – take this as an opportunity to fire Lasseter? Did they f**k. After okaying his sabbatical, Disney announced a few months later that although Lasseter would be leaving the company at the end of 2018 he’d be kept on in a consulting role in the meantime.
A pretty half-assed move from Disney that totally trivialises the behaviour and actions of Lasseter and people like him.
