9. A Girl Walks Home Alone At Night

Raw Movie
Vice Films

Dubbed as ‘the first Iranian vampire Western’, A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night is a modern horror masterpiece.

Set in the fictional ‘Bad City’, an unnamed woman spends her time skateboarding and listening to music. She also likes to have a nibble on people’s necks in order to drink their blood. Dressed in a chador as she lurks on the streets of Bad City, she casts a haunting silhouette across the equally haunting story.

Whilst filmed in America, the film is spoken entirely in Persian and has an otherworldly feel to it. A fantastic cast helmed by Sheila Vand help to make this story feel tangibly human, despite the supernatural and earthly horrors that it overflows with.

Deftly mixing horror, film noir and classic Western elements, A Girl Walks Home Alone at night is a refreshing and deeply disturbing take on the vampire legend.
