Krampus's special brand of Christmas-themed horror is a spectacle all in itself, utilising the old European mythos of Krampus to strike fear into the hearts of any naughty children that think they can pull their bullsh*t come holiday season. The Krampus of this movie is Santa Claus on acid, a giant, malicious, inherently evil horned creature that brings a host of Christmassy horrors with him to punish the Engel family's lack of Christmas spirit. And boy, does he really pulls some strangeness out of his sack.

The worst of all the horrors he inflicts on the Engels is surely Der Klown, a giant jack-in-the-box creature that consumes humans whole by cracking open its porcelain face and revealing a fleshy, toothy maw. Watching it swallow Jordan in a slow panning reveal is the most disturbing part of the movie, and his big dumb clown get up only makes this horrific set piece all the worse.
