10 Scary Supercomputers From Movie History

6. Bomb 20 - Dark Star (1974)

Scary Supercomputers - Dark Star Now this is a weird film. You'll probably recognize the director, John Carpenter. Is it possible that the man responsible for Halloween, Escape From New York, and The Fog could director this 83-minute bit of strangeness? Dark Star gives us the tale of intelligent bombs being used to destroy unstable planets. The crew of the spaceship Dark Star is responsible for using these bombs on worlds that threaten the colonization of the universe. Problems arise when Bomb #20 begins to doubt the reasons for dropping from the ship's bomb bay and destroying a planet. An interesting set of conversations take place between the crew and the intelligent bomb before Bomb 20 finally comes to the conclusion that it is God. While it may be a little too philosophical at times, this movie is quite enjoyable. Besides, how can you not like a movie with a beach ball alien, a man surfing his way into a planet's atmosphere, and a guy drifting through space in a block of ice?
