10 Sci-Fi Horror Movie Aliens That Make Space TERRIFYING

2. The Body Snatchers

Originally borne of McCarthyism, the Body Snatchers - or 'Pods' - have been brought to life in a host of films, most recently with 2007's Invasion, and most notably in 1978's Invasion of the Body Snatchers. They are a race of amorphous and intelligent beings from outer space who, surprisingly, don't so much snatch bodies as duplicate them.

Space seems to do a roaring trade in gelatinous beings of uncertain origin, and the Pods are no exception. Travelling from an unnamed dying planet, they take form as small flowering pods on Earth, which kill human beings in their sleep and adopt their duplicate form.

As if that wasn't enough to send your sweet dreams on a one-way flight to nightmare city, the Pods emit a piercing scream in their humanoid form, to identify non-duplicated humans in their midst (which ushers in the film's chilling conclusion).

Not content to sit idly by and enjoy the better things in life, like the blue aliens in They Live, the Pods' method of domination is cold, calculated and all-but foolproof, as they send their means of abduction overseas. If this is what they've done to Earth, imagine what the rest of space looks like...
