10 Sci-Fi Movie Endings That Get Worse The More You Think About Them

6. Peter's Got No Prospects -- Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021)

The third Tom Holland Spider-flick, No Way Home, took the fan service playbook and battered audiences round the head with it for two and a half hours, dropping in just about every major Spider-Man film character to date, along with a barrel-load of memes, one-liners out the wazoo and more Easter eggs than Jesus could eat in a year.

After accidentally fracturing the boundaries of the multiverse, Peter Parker (Holland) faces his entire rogues gallery with the help of trusted allies Peter Parker (Tobey Maguire) and Peter Parker (Andrew Garfield), and comes out on top -- with one condition. Nobody from his universe can remember ever meeting Holland-Peter.

Peter settles into his new anonymity with style, sewing a shiny blue and red suit, renting an apartment in Midtown Manhattan (on zero income -- perhaps the most science-fiction element of the entire film), and swinging off into the night. But wait. He won't be able to get a job or advance in his academic career without references. How he rented that flat in the first place is anyone's guess. Not only that, none of Peter's family, friends or acquaintances remember him, so he has no connection, common ground or shared past with anyone or anything...
