6. Why Doesn't Arthur Wake Up During Inception? - Inception (2010)

Christopher Nolan's dream-based sci-fi blockbuster
Inception has been the target of many a plot hole-based criticism - and given that the movie is literally built out of several interconnecting layers, it's not surprising to learn that there's quite a few of them lurking deep within the movie's complicated narrative. One particularly irksome hole involves Arthur's sleep pattern. Given the rules that are established prior to the event, Arthur should have awakened from the "second dream" as soon as the van started to free-fall in that particularly cool sequence. Because in order to wake up, the body in the dream "above" must be experiencing a free-falling sensation whilst asleep. Nobody else wakes up because they are deeper in the dream, and we know that they need to be synced for such a thing to occur. But Arthur isn't with them: he's in the second dream, and the free-fall should have woken up him.
