10 Sci-Fi Movies Critics Were Way Too Harsh On
4. Predator 2
Following on from the unlikely success of 1987's Predator, 20th Century Fox sought to bring the beloved alien hunter back for a second round, but the resulting sequel didn't achieve success anywhere near the level of its original.
The fact that critics were hard on Predator 2 is actually pretty ironic considering that Predator wasn't exactly a critical darling during the time of its release, and while it too has become something of a cult classic in recent years, its never managed to turn the tide in the same way that its predecessor did.
Currently only holding a 29% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, it's hard not to feel a little sorry for the film because, in all honesty, it deserves so much better than that. Sure, some may have taken issue with the fact that Arnold Schwarzenegger didn't reprise his role but Danny Glover is a great action hero in his own right.
On top of that, the Predator actually feels like more of a character in this one, and the half-hour-long final battle between it and Glover is a bloody hoot. Furthermore, the decision to base this one in the concrete jungle (instead of a real one) is actually pretty innovative. And the 'He's in town with a few days to kill' tagline was nothing short of inspired.
Predator 2 may not be as timeless as its predecessor, but it's a highly entertaining action movie that makes more of an original contribution to its franchise than any of its successors - and, in retrospect, it deserved far more love.
