From the incredibly unique mind of Charlie Kaufman, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind takes a science fiction staple of 'how far should we push technology?' and takes it to an extremely human and emotional level.

Unlike so many science fiction stories which use this concept to up the stakes and allow it to play out on the grandest possible scale, Eternal Sunshine looks at how it could impact us on an individual level and the result is one of the most hauntingly beautiful science fiction films of all time.

The story of a couple attempting to use technology to erase a painful break-up is something that most people can connect with, and really places the audience in the world with Jim Carrey and Kate Winslet (who are both at their career bests here). Despite the glimpses of the future, the technology and the likes, the film feels so real and it's something that just doesn't tend to exist within science fiction.

Sci-fi can have a tendency to alienate the audience from time to time because it can be hard to connect with, but Michel Gondry and Charlie Kaufman managed to buck that trend and create one of the most emotionally impactful ventures into the genre of all time.
