The implications of new species arriving on Earth has been a major fascination of sci-fi writers for as long as the genre has existed, and as most famously broached in Star Trek, would likely result in a major broadening of sexuality as humans mated with creatures not of this world.

This can also extend beyond purely extraterrestrial means, especially with the current debates about the utility and dangerous possibilities of genetic engineering.

Case in point, we have sci-fi horror Splice, where genetic engineers Clive Nicoli (Adrien Brody) and Elsa Kast (Sarah Polley) create a human-animal hybrid named Dren (Delphine Chanéac).

Dren matures at a geometric rate, demonstrating amphibian-like physical characteristics combined with a humanoid-esque form. This leads to an attraction forming between Clive and the alluring Dren, and they end up having sex, much to Elsa's horror.

Now admittedly, Splice takes on an altogether queasier tenor when you consider that Clive and Elsa created Dren - and are therefore its "parents" - and Dren's maturity is also questionable.

But at a base level, it does beg the question - how would you feel about hooking up with a beautiful genetic abomination not of this world?

On one hand, sexual curiosity would get the better of many, but the unknown dangers of copulating with a creature whose physicality hasn't been scientifically documented are also self-evident.
