10 Sci-Fi Movies That Ignored The Critics
2. Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice
Rotten Tomatoes Critic Score: 29%
Metacritic Score: 44
Batman V Superman was dragged by critics upon release in 2016, prompting a similar reaction from some of the fan base, and leading to the creation of the now-classic Sad Affleck meme.
However, Ben Affleck hit the nail on the head during interviews when he said: Ignore the critics; this is one for the fans. Sure, the film got a few things wrong, including the miscasting of Lex Luthor (Jesse Eisenberg), a meagre helping of genuine Bat vs Supes action, and a few unfortunately laughable moments. But, overall, it packs a huge punch, putting the titular heroes together for their first ever live action encounter.
Affleck and Henry Cavill brought their A-game to a new and excitingly dark Batman, and the classic yet conflicted Superman we had already come to love. Heap this onto the fact that director Zack Snyder lovingly reproduced a whole host of classic scenes and panels from the comics, and the film is a feast for hungry eyes, offering a credible if flawed alternative to the sterilised style of the MCU.
And let's not forget how unashamedly fun the whole thing is; a fact confirmed by the film's global box office takings of approximately $900 million dollars.
