10 Sci-Fi Movies That Were Way Too Complicated

The Marvel Cinematic Universe really made a lot of people sit up and pay attention. It proved that people were willing to keep up with a single story told over dozens of different movies and that they were willing to pay bank for it.

Unfortunately, the success of the MCU meant that other studios felt the need to play catch-up. The biggest offender? Marvel's arch-rivals DC.

Directed by Zack Snyder (uh oh), Batman V Superman attempted to bring together several of DC's most iconic characters in one film. Whilst Marvel's first big team-up came six movies in, Warner Bros. and DC tried to do it after just one.

This meant that they not only had to build on Henry Cavill's Superman from Man of Steel, but they had to introduce Ben Affleck as Batman, Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, Jesse Eisenburg as Lex Luthor, and find room to bring in Doomsday!

Just reading that sentence is confusing enough.

Because of course it did, trying to do all this over the course of a single movie left it bloated and incoherent. We'd like to say that Warners and DC learnt their lesson from this debacle, but then we'd be ignoring the Justice League movie from 2017...
