10 Sci-Fi Movies Where Evil Won

4. Cube

Cult classic sci-fi Cube follows a group of people who wake up within an interlocking series of cubes, most of which contain deadly traps designed to kill them.

It's a terrifically taut and ambiguous piece of low-budget genre filmmaking, and ends with only one of the seven characters making it out of the cube alive - Kazan (Andrew Miller).

But the grimly amusing irony of the film's ending is that Kazan is a mentally handicapped young man, and so despite his survival, he lacks the means to verbalise the insanity he's just experienced.

That's even assuming Kazan truly does survive, of course, given that the straight-to-video sequel, Cube 2: Hypercube, seems to imply with its downer ending that those who escape are shot immediately after exiting by the shadowy organisation behind the cubes.
