10 Sci-Fi Rip-Off Movies (That Messed Up What They Copied)
5. Warrior Of The Lost World
The enormous global success of the first two Mad Max films led to a glut of me-too rip-offs throughout the '80s, including perhaps most infamously 1983's Warrior of the Lost World.
Helmed by future Kickboxer director David Worth, this Italian-backed production was thrown together for just $500,000, and centers around The Rider (Robert Ginty), who in a post-apocalyptic future uses his high-tech motorcycle to battle Omega, an evil Orwellian state.
Even if the particulars of its narrative do differ from the Mad Max movies, there's no mistaking the style and aesthetics it's shamelessly pilfering - albeit without George Miller's technical ingenuity or keen eye towards evocative world-building.
Also, it has to be said, lead actor Robert Ginty was certainly no Mel Gibson in the gravitas department.
The film does get a few points for roping in the great Donald Pleasence as the villainous Prossor, though, with Pleasence even wearing a get-up hilariously similar to his Blofeld garb from You Only Live Twice.
