10 Scrapped Star Wars Movie Scenes Better Than What We Got

9. Kylo Ren Explores Vader's Castle - The Rise Of Skywalker

One of the things The Rise of Skywalker seemed most concerned about was shovelling as much nostalgia into the audience's face as possible, so the omission of this opening scene is rather baffling.

After the worst title crawl in Star Wars history, where it is anticlimactically revealed that somehow Palpatine has returned, the film cuts to Kylo Ren tearing through Mustafar. Ren immediately finds a Sith Wayfinder, which acts essentially as a map to the Sith homeworld of Exegol, and he is then whisked away to find the hidden planet and the phantom Emperor.

Whilst it is good to see Mustafar again, the scene is incredibly rushed. This wasn't always the case, though. In the novelisation of The Rise of Skywalker, Ren, accompanied by General Hux and Allegiant General Pryde, met with the Eye of Webbish Bog, a giant spider-like creature and a former servant of Darth Vader. The creature tells Ren he will find the Wayfinder in the ruins of Vader's castle, which Kylo hastily ventures to alone.

This scene would have made for a much more gripping and eerie opening to Episode IX, as well as creating a better dynamic between Ren and Hux, who accuses the Supreme Leader of 'chasing ghosts' instead of putting out the fires of rebellion across the galaxy.
