10 Secret Subplots Hidden In Movies
5. Marty Almost Kills George (And Himself) - Back To The Future
Who can forget the outrageous scene in Back to the Future where Marty McFly (Michael J. Fox) disguises himself as the alien "Darth Vader" to convince his father George (Crispin Glover) to take his mother Lorraine (Lea Thompson) out on a date?
Hilariously, the next morning George runs over to Marty and comments that he overslept, which the audience most likely assumes is simply a result of George being roused violently from his slumber, and then probably being too wired to quickly go back to sleep.
But in actual fact, an extended version of the scene reveals that Marty basically tortured George while under the guise of Darth Vader, and even ended up knocking him out with a chloroform rag to ensure he passed out - hence why George overslept.
It gets even more problematic, though, as when Marty escapes George's house, a waiting Doc (Christopher Lloyd) asks him how it went, and Marty replies, "That chloroform really put him out. Hope I didn't over do it." Yikes.
It goes without saying that chloroform in the hands of a high-schooler is a recipe for disaster, and given how careless Marty was clearly being, he could've easily administered a fatal dose of the stuff to George and undone his own existence in the process. Not cool.
