10 Seemingly Great Films That Unravelled On A Second Viewing

9. Slumdog Millionaire

If you've only ever seen Slumdog Millionaire once, keep it that way: seriously, aside from being one of those movies that everyone loved the first time they saw it but haven't bothered to watch again (c'mon, you're guilty), it's also one of those intoxicatingly giddy and uplifting Best Picture wannabes that... well, won Best Picture. So whereas Slumdog Millionaire certainly has its good points, its bad points are emphasised to such a point when you sit down to it for the second time that it's actually kind of ridiculous. That's to say, the premise of the flick is downright horrific. For some reason, everybody willingly donned their super suspended disbelief hats for their first viewing of Slumdog - the quirky idea, that an Indian kids wins Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? because every single question has relevance to an incident in his life, was too intriguing to pass up. Revisiting the movie, you can't shy away from its absurd implausibilities and the fact that the main character is an awkward, gushing bag of dull. Not to forget that it's so stylised and fake in places that it kind of undermines its entire point. And, hey, it's actually a little boring, too.
