10 Sequels That Completely Ignored The Previous Film

1. Halloween H20: 20 Years Later

Sequel to: Halloween, Halloween II But not: Halloween III: Season of the Witch; Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myers; Halloween 5: The Revenge of Michael Myers; Halloween: The Curse of Michael Myers Here's where it gets extra confusing: Halloween has four or five different continuities if you're looking to watch more than the first film. You can just watch the first two, both written by creators John Carpenter and Debra Hill and therefore the most "official" canon, or add the third part, Season of the Witch, which has nothing to do with the other films in narrative continuity but is the only other one produced by Carpenter and Hill. Or you could opt for a series that runs 1, 2, 4, 5, 6 and watch the series through the sequels following original lead Laurie Strode's daughter Jamie Lloyd after Laurie's death. H20 keeps the fact that Laurie is supposed to be dead (although it reveals she faked it), but not the continuity of the rest of parts 4 through 6 or the character of Jamie. Alternatively, the H20 series runs through the first, second and seventh film, which ends pretty conclusively with the decapitation of Michael Myers only for him to return in another retconned sequel that essentially follows the H20 continuity: Halloween: Resurrection. Five years later, the 2007 reboot acts half as a prequel to the Michael Myers character before rushing through a remake of the original movie in its second half. So which should I watch? Ideally just watch the first film, because anything after that is only going to be a disappointment. If you really want sequels, however, then the original film, Halloween II, and H20 make a pretty decent, effective trio provided you end it with Myers' decapitation and ignore Resurrection completely.
