10 Serious Actors Who Successfully Made The Jump To Comedy

2. Jeff Bridges

Death To Smoochy Edward Norton
Gramercy Pictures

Like his father, Lloyd, before him, Jeff Bridges has spent the most of his career racking up movie roles of all varieties like some sort of Hollywood hoarder. The majority of his work from 1970 to 1997 fell decidedly on the more serious side of things, with occasional forays into goofy science fiction (Starman, Tron) and tepid rom-coms.

It wasn't until 1998 that the world was introduced to Bridges' comedic depths through a little film called The Big Lebowski. His turn as "The Dude" had a lovable bit of soul underneath the slacker charm and spaced-out humor, a result of his ability to overtake every last morsel of the characters he plays.

According to Bridges, The Big Lebowski is still the most popular film on his lengthy resume, which...duh. But it should be noted that he's used the goodwill earned from his performance as The Dude to pop up in similarly oddball comedies like The Amateurs, The Men Who Stare at Goats, and How to Lose Friends & Alienate People.

Unsurprisingly, he's killed it each and every time. And that's not just like...my opinion, man.
