5. Selene Gets Information She Needs; Throws Scientist To His Death For No Reason - Underworld: Awakening
The fourth Underworld movie, subtitled Awakening, takes place in a world were vampires and werewolves are outlawed, with the human race bent on trying to eradicate them. At one point in the movie, our heroine, Selene, finds herself captured and held in a strange laboratory, but is later let go by a mysterious scientist character (an uncredited Wes Bentley). Later, she pays a visit to this man at his house and beats him around, demanding to know why she was captured. The scientist explains that her DNA was being used to find cures for a number of infections, but Selene decides that he's lying and dangles him out of a window. Now, given that Selene is our protagonist, we don't really expect what's coming next, a moment that presumably exists as a set-up for a badass line. "Don't kill me!" pleads the scientist. "I let you go!' To which Selene replies, of course: "Let's make it even, then," and drops the chap to his death. It feels like a moment that was written after the dialogue exchange had been thought up first - it's supposed to be cool, but it just comes across as... well, really cold and actually kind of evil. That's a bad, bad Selene.
