Tetsuo: The Iron Man is the first film in a trilogy of movies that all became cult classics pretty much the day they were released. The film is a cyberpunk/sci-fi/horror movie, which was written, produced, directed, and edited by Shinya Tsukamoto, who is Japanese cinema's answer to a cult-film director.

Being a cyberpunk movie, it's set in a dystopia that is a dark and horribly grim representation of a society wholly reliant on technology such that the inhabitants have begun transforming themselves into techno-organic monstrosities. The film opens with a so-called "Metal Fetishist," who slices open his flesh to jam metal rods inside.

That is only the beginning, and everything that follows does so in the strangest, most disturbing, and obscure manner possible. That same Metal Fetishist is run over by a businessman who is later transformed into the eponymous Iron Man, which is a name he acquires after he begins sprouting metal bits from within his body.

Eventually, he slowly transforms into a machine, and by the end of the movie, the Fetishist returns to battle it out with the Iron Man, who ran him over in the first act of the movie. It's as weird as it sounds, and it's as visually disturbing as it is imaginative and incredible.
