10 Shocking Movie Deaths That Came Out Of Nowhere

2. Samuel L. Jackson - Deep Blue Sea

It was the expectation of just about anyone that Samuel L. Jackson was going to be the badass older guy who helped lead the team of younger, less-experienced folk through the heart of danger and out the other side (with a ton of casualties along the way, no less). To the film's credit, despite its many flaws it plays with this expectation very well, such that when Jackson is giving his inspirational speech not long into the film, we were all promptly shocked by his grisly death at the hands of a shark that somehow managed to...dive out of the pool, grab Jackson, and then slide back in... Though it makes little physical sense and the visual effects were beyond awful even for the time, you have to admire the gall of a director crazy enough to hire Jackson - who is evidently the most charismatic actor in the entire film - and then dare kill him off before things have even really got going. Madness.
