3. The Exorcist (1973)
Often touted as the scariest horror film of all time (but surely usurped by some of the 21st Century shockers we've been treated to by the likes of Ari Aster), The Exorcist had to earn its stripes somewhere, and it seems that somewhere was the cinemas in which it first screened.
Child actor Linda Blair's turn as a schoolgirl possessed by a malevolent spirit, cussing out her mother, killing priests and generally making a mess of the house, is at once fascinating and terrifying in a way that few films had managed before.
The offending article (amongst many ejections of bodily fluids and grisly murders and crawling down the stairs backwards) was another all-time infamous scene, in which possessed twelve-year-old Regan is found 'masturbating' with a crucifix, crying "let Jesus f**k you!"
