10 Shocking Movie Moments That Made People Leave The Cinema
4. The Blair Witch Project (1999)
The beginning of the found footage horror genre - or at least where it broke into the mainstream - The Blair Witch Project was built on a dial-up internet marketing campaign that built up a massive hype around the film and cast some serious doubt as to whether this all might not be the real deal.
Broadly speaking, Blair Witch was written and directed by Daniel Myrick and Eduardo Sánchez, who took a cast of unknowns into the forest and set about sending them to their wits' end.
Unfortunately, one of the main side effects of arming a group of amateurs with handheld cameras and letting them run wild and scared and snotty through the woods, is they don't tend to respect even the loosest rules of framing and cinematography.
As a result, audiences frequently reported being nauseous and dizzy at the spinning, shaking footage, and many cinemas saw their patrons bolting to the toilets and sometimes throwing up right there in the aisle. In particular, when things start to get dark and the film's stars panic, the handhelds go flying and so does everyone's lunch.
