10 Shocking Movie Twists That Nearly Happened
4. Scott Ditches Ramona Flowers For Knives Chau - Scott Pilgrim Vs The World
Apparently all the girls loved Michael Cera's awkward Puck Man chat back in 2010, or so Scott Pilgrim vs The World would have us believe.
Edgar Wright's all-singing, all-dancing comics adaptation melds Wright's idiosyncratic direction with heavily stylized comic book visuals and a heady dose of super-sarcastic US culture, becoming a cult titan that somehow flatlined at the box office.
22-year-old Scott (Cera) ditches his high-schooler girlfriend Knives Chau (Ellen Wong) to pursue the manic pixie girl of his dreams, Ramona Flowers (Mary Elizabeth Winstead). Little does he know, she has seven evil exes waiting to fight him for her honour. Technicoloured fight scenes abound, and Scott emerges victorious at the film's conclusion, journeying into some great beyond with his newly-won beloved.
But, as discussed in a 2011 Collider interview, the original ending saw Scott and Ramona come to something of a "silent agreement" that Scott really belonged with Knives. Thus, in the twist of twists, Ramona walks off into the sunset and Scott settles down with the girl he's ignored and emotionally abused for the better part of a whole film. Thankfully, Bryan Lee O'Malley, writer of the original manga, stepped in and made sure we got an ending that made sense.
