10 Shocking Movies That Will Scar You For Life
8. Eden Lake
For a short while in the late 2000s an unexpected politically charged subgenre was rising, one that dealt with a fear of Britain's lower class youth who apparently liked to do nothing but cause misery. Eden Lake is easily the best of the bunch, and one hell of an effective thriller.
Michael Fassbender and Kelly Reilly play a couple whose romantic weekend getaway is tarnished by the presence of unruly teens, led by Jack O'Connell in a terrifically sinister performance. Refusing to allow their behaviour to get in the way of their enjoyment, a confrontation ensues between adults and youths, which is briskly followed by an unrelenting escalation in terror.
What starts as bitter disagreements, leads toward murderous actions that affect both sides. Then, just when you think you're getting to the end of the pain and misery, and everything is going to work out okay in the end, we're dealt a final scene that will leave you feeling awfully hollow inside. It's an ending that will make you angry it happened, but also marvel at how well the movie was crafted.
