10 Short Sentences That Ruin Major Films

9. Nobody Hears Charles Foster Kane's Last Word - Citizen Kane (1941)

Citizen Kane is still rightly regarded as one of the greatest movies ever made, with Orson Welles making an unforgettable debut theatrical feature. After Welles' wealthy newspaper magnate dies, an intrepid reporter decides to delve into Charles Foster Kane's past in order to discover the meaning behind 'Rosebud', his dying word. The only problem is, the character died alone on his vast estate so nobody was actually there to hear him say it. Later on in the movie, the butler does recall that he heard Kane mention the phrase a while before his death, but that doesn't cover up the fact that the entire plot of the movie revolves around the meaning behind a word that nobody actually heard the character say firsthand. Perhaps the butler was telling the truth, or perhaps maid the heard him, seeing as she enters the room moments after he passes away. Either way, it remains quite a large oversight in a true masterpiece of American cinema.

I don't do social media, so like or follow me in person but please maintain a safe distance or the authorities will be notified. Don't snap me though, I'll probably break. I was once labelled a misogynist on this very site in a twenty paragraph-long rant for daring to speak ill of the Twilight franchise. I stand by what I said, it's crap.
