10 Shots That Completely Killed The Magic Of Cinema

8. Alien Time-Out

Alien Behind The Scenes
20th Century Fox

Alien (1979)

The magic and impact of the Alien franchise isn't in the characters, or the story or the special effect; it isn't in the action sequences, or the incredible sci-fi sets - though all are exceptional, and all are hugely important parts of the film franchise's overall success.

Instead it is Ridley Scott's commitment to making an affecting horror movie, building atmosphere, and crucially, never showing the xenomorphs stalking the characters outside of shadows or fleeting glimpses, It's the withholding of information that really makes what we see on screen so profoundly affecting.

So, seeing an actor dressed as one of the creatures clearly taking a break in filming, perched crudely on a box on a grim-looking lot was bound to destroy that magic. Especially as it appears he's receiving some sort of electrical enema at the same time.
