The pleasure of the Batman and Robin Scale The Building shot in Batman shows and the original film was knowing that they were really just walking sideways along a manufactured set (and not a particularly convincing one at that) - it was a wink-nudge sequence that added to the simple camp entertainment of the show, and crucially it never needed confirmation.
So seeing confirmation - even of something we already knew - takes away that magical little bond between the audience and the film-makers. We're all in on the joke, but its impact requires everyone to keep schtum.
