10 Silly Villains That Ruin Serious Horror Movies

8. Montag The Magnificent - The Wizard Of Gore

Deadly Blessing
Dimension Extreme

The original 1970 version of The Wizard Of Gore by Herschell Gordon Lewis was incredibly silly, and intentionally so. Lewis found more success in making silly little gore flicks than making serious films, so he focused his career on the former.

In 2007, The Wizard Of Gore was remade as a noir mystery horror film with the intention of making it more serious than the original movie. With some quite big names attached such as Brad Dourif, Crispin Glover, Jeffrey Combs and the Suicide Girls, it seemed that the movie was going to make a splash in the horror market. In reality, it did quite the opposite.

Despite attempts at making the movie more serious, Crispin Glover’s outrageous acting as Montag The Magnificent and a supremely ridiculous plot that involves hallucinogens and conspiracy make the film far too ridiculous to take seriously. Crispin Glover laughably overacts every single line he’s given and Montag's motivations make no sense story-wise. The result is rushed, unfinished and silly; major sins for a noir movie that ruined any chance of its success.

Whilst this could have been a promising remake of a ridiculous movie, the team behind it royally screwed up the execution, thus leaving The Wizard Of Gore as just another disappointing horror remake to add to the pile.
