The Twilight movies aren't exactly known for their acting prowess: even though stars Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart have proven themselves fine actors on the art-house circuit, here they're just coasting for the easy paycheque, and the only actor who really puts much effort in is the under-appreciated TV actor Billy Burke. Here Burke plays Charlie Swan, the respectable and understandably concerned cop father of Bella (Stewart), and easily the most relatable, realistic character in a series that so often defies logic. A firm voice of reason amid the cloud of hormones and silliness, he's arguably the most likeable character in the entire saga, as his incredulity at what's happening around him is matched by that of the audience's: for starters, he also has no idea why Bella would pick the pale, pasty Edward over the kindly, ripped Jacob. He comes round to Edward in the end, of course, but unlike almost every character in these movies, his motives always make sense, and dialogue-wise he doesn't really get any corny one-liners.
