10 Smartest Decisions In Superhero Movie History

6. Edna's "No Capes!" Rule - The Incredibles

Edna Mode (Brad Bird) is surely The Incredibles' most beloved supporting character, a delightfully demented fashion designer known for her work with some of the world's most famous superheroes.

She truly came into her own, however, when meeting with Mr. Incredible (Craig T. Nelson) to consider a new costume design. After he insisted upon having a cape, Edna stubbornly insisted, "No capes!"

Edna wasn't being a stick in the mud for no reason, though, citing the numerous superheroes over the years who have perished as a result of their capes getting caught on various objects, such as missiles, jet turbines and even a tornado vortex, as revealed through a gloriously demented montage.

And though this is often cited as one of the funniest and most memorable scenes in either Incredibles movie, it also confirms that Edna is clearly the smartest person in the room, literally and figuratively, despite her rather ridiculous appearance.

After all, the villainous Syndrome (Jason Lee) is literally killed by his own cape at the end of the movie, sucked into a jet turbine in the middle of his final battle against the heroes.

Obviously this was never a concern for the good guys thanks to Edna's wisdom, and there's even a popular fan theory that Edna may have helped design Syndrome's costume, well aware that he was up to no good and building a fatal, caped flaw into his suit.

Whether you believe the theory or not, there's no doubting that Edna has far more to offer than "just" fashion design, and without her there's every possibility that some or even all of the Incredibles could've suffered similar fates to Syndrome.
