10 Smartest Zombies In Horror Movies

4. Big Daddy - Land Of The Dead

Day of the Dead Bub
Universal Pictures

George A. Romero returned to the series that made him famous with 2005's Land of the Dead. The film took the next logical step in the zombie genre and introduced new concepts to the post-apocalyptic world.

When it came to the idea of the undead, Romero expanded on the character of Bub from Day of the Dead by exploring the increasing intelligence of zombies. This was best seen in the character of Big Daddy.

The zombie was a gas attendant and lurked there until the events of the film. His mental superiority among his peers is first seen when our protagonists use fireworks to distract the horde, which works on everyone except him. When he sees his fellow zombies get killed by the humans, Big Daddy starts an uprising and leads the horde toward Fiddler's Green, the film's primary setting.

In order to get to the city, he guides his people underwater as he knows they cannot drown. His uprising then culminates when he kills Kauffman, the ruler of the city. Satisfied with his revenge, Big Daddy and his horde then leave Fiddler's Green by the end of Land of the Dead.
