4. Dan Aykroyd's Haunted House Inspired Ghostbusters
Dan Aykroyd and his wife Donna Dixon bought their house in the Hollywood Hills back in the 1980s. They joined an impressive list of celebrity owners that included Beatles drummer Ringo Starr, actress Natalie Wood and Mamas and the Papas singer "Mama" Cass Elliot. Soon after purchasing the property, Aykroyd and Dixon began to experience something strange in their neighbourhood.
Aykroyd says that his bed was regularly visited by a ghost. He believed the spectre to be Mama Cass because "you get the feeling it's a big ghost". The actor wasn't drawn on whether or not he got intimate with Cass' spirit. Ghostly piano music would also fill the house and doors would slam, Aykroyd believed he was being haunted.
Aykroyd drew on his experiences to co-write Ghostbusters with Harold Ramis, something that may have led to the difficulties the couple experienced in selling the property! Before selling it on, Aykroyd listed the property for rent, letting it to singer Robbie Williams, who also claimed to have come into contact with the ghost of Mama Cass. Weirder still, Ringo Starr's son Zak told Williams that he had played with ghostly children in the house when he was younger.
