10 Star Wars Characters We Can't Wait To See In Live-Action

8. Grand Admiral Thrawn

Benedict Cumberbatch Thrawn
Lucasfilm / Del Rey

Thrawn was another icon of the Legends era - a Chiss who took command of the Empire and became a big bad of the original sequel trilogy which spanned the novels "Heir to the Empire," "Dark Force Rising," and "The Last Command."

Thrawn's existence was made canon with his appearance in the animated Rebels series as part of the new "Disney" timeline and proved to be a dangerous and terrifying adversary. He believed that to destroy an enemy one had to know them. He dedicated his time to learning all about alien cultures and history to give him an advantage in battle.

Thrawn's leadership was brutal and dangerous, and despite the Rebels' best attempts to stop him, there were still many casualties from attacks he instigated. In a final stand against the villain, Ezra Bridger traps him and the two of them are pulled into Hyperspace. Their current locations are unknown, but finding them will provide the basis of the Ahsoka series plot.

In the series, Thrawn will allegedly be played by Lars Mikkelsen, who voiced him in Rebels. We'll also meet Ezra Bridger in Ahsoka. He will be played by Mena Massoud, who you'll know as Aladdin from Disney's recent remake.

Simon is a writer, cat dad and presenter of a geeky radio show with his husband. He loves Doctor Who (except 10 who can get in the bin…only joking.) He idolises Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Lara Croft and would 100% be a Sith Lord in a galaxy far, far away. He wishes life was like a musical so he’d actually be a good singer.
