10 Star Wars Expanded Universe Stories Every Fan Should Read

2. Star Wars (Dark Horse Comics)

Star Wars Dark Horse Adding "Star Wars" to this list (that's actually what the series is called) may be a little hasty considering the series only started back in January. However, if critical reception is any indication, this series is shaping up to be possibly the best Star Wars series that Dark Horse has ever written. Taking place directly after "A New Hope," this series was advertised as pretending the other movies never existed. So for those of you worried there will be a lot of obscure references or continuity problems, worry no more. If you've seen the first Star Wars movie, you're good to go. In the wake of the Death Star's destruction, the Rebels are taking the next step to ensure their survival from the vengeful Empire. However, a spy among their ranks hopes to betray the Rebellion's secrets. To find this traitor, Princess Leia forms a squadron of her best pilots, including Luke Skywalker. Meanwhile, Han and Chewbacca head out on their own mission for the rebellion, which naturally ends up going worse than expected. Last but not least, Darth Vader deals with the repercussions of his failures and does what he can to redeem himself for the Empire. I don't say this lightly: if you're even just a casual Star Wars fan, you should read this series. It brings a degree of excitement that fans haven't felt in a long time, and even a little something extra. Plus, there's a lot of action and suspense, not to mention your favorite Original Trilogy characters. What more could you ask for? This series is just starting, but I can already tell it's destined to be a classic.
