5. Leia Remembers Her Mother€ Who Died In Childbirth

In Return of the Jedi, Luke asks Leia if she remembers her mother €“ and distinctly says that he means €œyour real mother.€ Leia admits that she does, telling Luke, "She was very beautiful. Kind, but sad,€ and also points out, "She died when I was very young." Luke admits that he has no memories of his mother, who, as we already know, is the same woman. This also reveals for the first time in the movies that Leia was aware that she was adopted. In Revenge of the Sith, it is revealed that Luke and Leia€™s mother died moments after giving birth to them. There was no time for the seconds-old Leia to get to know her mother, and she had no more time with her than infant Luke did. Unless the Force gave Leia the power to retain memories from infancy €“ a power that Luke doesn€™t seem to have €“ the conversation in Return of the Jedi sounds like Leia is making stuff up. Then again, seconds later Leia admits she somehow €œalways known€ that Luke was her brother, but still made out with him back on Hoth anyway. Yeah.
