10 Star Wars Scenes That Deserved To Be Longer
8. Qui-Gon Jinn's Funeral - Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace
Although poorly received at the time, many Star Wars fans have come to feel that the prequels were treated too harshly, with one of the outstanding aspects of Episode I being Qui-Gon Jinn.
The Jedi was at this time the master of Obi-Wan Kenobi, and was looking to take on Anakin Skywalker as an apprentice when he was ultimately struck down by Dark Maul in the Duel of the Fates. This was easily the most emotional moment in the entire movie.
What should have been equally, if not more emotional, was Qui-Gon’s funeral. The Jedi Knight was placed upon a pyre, and the image of his burning body should have been solemn and meaningful, but the scene unfortunately missed the mark.
The funeral itself was far too short, with the majority of the poignancy being ruined by Obi-Wan, Anakin, Yoda, and Windu talking through it, and then two seconds later you have a parade of Gungans quashing any emotion that hadn't already been robbed. The conclusion of The Phantom Menace needed to focus more on saying goodbye to Qui-Gon Jinn, and less on Jar Jar Binks.
