Last Entry: The Exorcist - Season 1 (2016)

It can be argued that 1973's The Exorcist is the exact type of self-contained horror movie that never needed any sequel, a perfect engine of a movie that's still considered to be one of the scariest films ever made. Of course, its popularity kept it from flying solo for long, and several further films followed, the last of which hit theaters in 2005.

Of course, exorcism films are a dime a dozen, but nothing has ever come close to leaving the same impression on pop culture that The Exorcist has managed for over four decades. It's no surprise, then, that the brand eventually resurfaced last year in the form of a TV series - also called The Exorcist, of course - on NBC that scored moderate reviews and did well enough to score a second season that began airing only days ago on September 29th.

Following the adventures of Father Tomas Ortega and Father Marcus Keane, The Exorcist is a sequel to the original film, with a whole slew of connections, both subtle and overt, to please fans, and the general consensus is that the newest season, fittingly dubbed The Next Chapter, has gotten off to a suitably spooky, dark start.
