10 Stephen King Stories That Deserve Film Adaptations

4. The Gingerbread Girl

Eyes Of The Dragon
Esquire,

The Gingerbread Girl was published quite recently, in 2007. It tells a relatively simple but action-packed story, featuring a woman named Emily who has chosen to spend some time in her father's holiday home on a little Floridian island after the tragic death of her baby daughter.

Obsessed with running, Emily spends hours of each day jogging around the island and chatting to the locals. She soon learns about a mysterious man who lives nearby and is warned to stay away from him. However, through a series of circumstances and bad fortune, Emily quickly finds herself trapped in the man's house and forced to fight for her life.

The book features a straightforward plot but moves exceptionally quickly and builds a lot of suspense in a very short amount of time, potentially making for a great cinematic thriller. The chapters charting Emily's escape were nail-biting enough on the page and could be even more exciting on the big screen with a strong female lead.
