10 Strange David Lynch Stories You Probably Don't Know
7. He Lived On The Eraserhead Set
Lynch first began work on Eraserhead when he was a student at the American Film Institute in California in the early 70s. Before long, though, it was clear that the film wasn’t going to be done in a semester. By the time the film was finally completed, Lynch had invested five years of his life into it.
During that time, his personal life struggled. For a big chunk of the film’s shooting, the director actually lived on the set himself. Constructed in a stable in the back of the school’s campus and shot with salvaged film reels from dumpsters around town, this was undoubtedly a very hard time for Lynch.
