2. Hello, Dolly! (1967)
As mentioned previously, musicals were all the rage in Hollywood and helped precipitate the total collapse of the studio system and fortunately usher in New Hollywood films. Maybe it was a sympathy nomination for Gene Kelly, but this film was a colossal failure artistically and commercially. Many people mention Cleopatra as a financial failure but they tend to forget this film since it cost almost as much and garnered far less revenue. Everything about Hello, Dolly is overblown and far from being Streisands finest hour. Imagine a Twinkie with frosting covered in chocolate and then dipped into sprinkles, then the concoction is fried and then Twizzlers are added with a helpful share of Captain Crunch and then everything would be placed in giant sized doughnut. Add some cheesy acting and singing and you have Hello, Dolly!
