10 Strangest Mistakes Kept In Movies
1. The "Dead" Guy Lives - The Patriot
Early on in Mel Gibson's war epic The Patriot, we see Benjamin Martin (Mel Gibson) and his younger sons kill a group of redcoats who plan to hang Benjamin's eldest son Gabriel (Heath Ledger).
At the end of the harrowing sequence, as Benjamin's family soak in the brutality of the situation, we see Benjamin walk away from the scene, but if you look very closely, as the wide shot fades out, one of the "dead" redcoats can hilariously be seen moving.
Evidently, the extra playing the corpse moved a little too early before Gibson, also the director, called cut, and this movement wasn't picked up during editing. However, the movie's Extended Cut actually replaces this shot with a totally different one, perhaps suggesting that Gibson was eventually made aware of the error and sought about removing it for his "definitive" version of the film.
History buffs will point out that one redcoat did actually survive Martin's ambush in reality, though given that the actor's movement is only visible for a second - and Gibson removed it from the Extended Cut - this was clearly not what the director was trying to convey.
