10 Strangest Movie Changes Made After Filming
5. Changing The Protagonist's Name From Eve To Ava - Ava
2020's Jessica Chastain-starring action thriller Ava was originally shot under the title "Eve," yet in late 2019, roughly a year after filming wrapped, it was quietly changed to Ava.
It's never been officially confirmed why this happened, though plausible speculation suggests that the film's producers wanted to differentiate it from the BBC's similarly-themed TV series Killing Eve, which premiered a few months prior to the movie starting shooting.
Given that the movie's title is also the name of Chastain's protagonist, the change obviously wasn't as simple as just editing some marketing materials - it resulted in numerous scenes having to be re-dubbed and some even re-shot in order to change the name spoken by the film's characters.
Ultimately it likely wasn't worth the hassle given that the movie tanked with critics and audiences alike, admittedly while releasing during an especially harrowing period of the pandemic.
All the same, the money spent on differentiating it from a considerably more acclaimed piece of media surely didn't deliver the expected return, even factoring in VOD sales.
