10 Strangest Reasons Actors Lost Out On HUGE Movie Roles
5. Charlize Theron Wasn't Rob Marshall's Roxie - Chicago
Another star who actually at one point had a huge movie role in their hands before eventually having it torn away in next to no time, Charlize Theron was once very much preparing herself for the character of a lifetime as 2002's big-screen adaptation of Chicago looked to be picking up steam.
However, the second Theron's original director was swapped out for Rob Marshall, things started to unravel for the future Oscar-winner.
With the South African-American sensation explaining to Howard Stern on his SiriusXM radio show that "I was a dancer for most of my life" and "there was a real nostalgia" that came with the idea of making said jazzy flick, Theron would ultimately note how she "was really bummed" when “this new director got brought on and he didn't want to make the movie with me."
In the end, through no fault of Theron's own, Marshall suddenly called a Roxie Hart audible and brought Renée Zellweger in for the iconic part instead; a move that a clearly deflated Theron still couldn't help but praise, admittedly, stating that "I’m fully envious of what she did… I’ve seen that movie a lot."
