10 Stunning Movies With One Awful CGI Moment
4. The Fathier Chase - Star Wars: The Last Jedi
Say what you will about Star Wars: The Last Jedi, but like Rogue One, it's an incredibly well-made movie with some truly astonishing visual effects sequences, especially the scenes featuring Supreme Leader Snoke (Andy Serkis) and the awe-inspiring moment where Vice Admiral Holdo (Laura Dern) makes the ultimate sacrifice.
But there's one moment that has to spoil a bit of the fun, sadly, and that's the woefully ugly escape sequence on casino planet Canto Bight, where Rose (Kelly Marie Tran) and Finn (John Boyega) steal a horse-dog-like creature known as a Fathier to make their exit.
Though the practical effect of the Fathier when it's stood still actually looks rather good, it all goes to hell once the creatures start racing and things go digital.
The running animation looks sub-par and the actors are awkwardly composited on top of the digital creature, creating a disgusting motion blur during close-up shots that proves unfortunately reminiscent of the Star Wars prequels.
The scene itself isn't an inherently bad idea, but the execution feels totally off compared to the rest of the movie.
