10 Stupid Comic Book Movie Deaths That Should Never Have Happened

8. El Diablo (Suicide Squad)

Superman Dead
Entertainment Weekly/Warner Bros.

Suicide Squad was doomed from the start. It followed on the heels of the single worst superhero movie of all time, was forced into extensive reshoots in post-production as Warner Brothers tried to recuperate from the resulting criticism, and, perhaps most damning, it had Jered Leto in it. Suffice it to say, the film was underwhelming, poorly paced, and was written and directed by David Ayer.

One of the few interesting elements in the film, however, was the tragic tale of Chato Santana a.k.a. the pyrokinetic former gangster El Diablo. The sole member of the Suicide Squad to show remorse for his past criminal actions, Chato, played by Jay Hernandez, was compelling, likable, and generated the best action scenes in the film.

Which is why it was a shame, and an odd one at that, when he was killed off in the third act. In an epic brawl with the ancient demigod Incubus (don't ask), El Diablo sacrificed himself for his "family." The family in question? A motley crew of psychos and criminals who he'd known for all of a few hours at that point. It's worth noting they had done nothing but berate him for his pacifism and abuse him in that time.

But hey, gotta make room on the team for Pete Davidson and John Cena in the sequel.
