10 Subtle MCU Gags Everybody Missed At First

3. Howard The Duck Joins The Fight (Avengers: Endgame)

Imagine you lived in the MCU, you were going into battle, and you could pick any combination of heroes to join you. You'd go for Hulk, Wanda, Thor, and all the other heavy-hitters, right? But someone you wouldn't go for is Howard the bloody Duck.

Howard's MCU introduction in Guardians of the Galaxy remains one of the most disappointing post-credits scenes in the franchise, but full credit to the guy for having the stones to show up in Avengers: Endgame's final battle, visible in the background for around 18 frames as Wasp flits into action.

Though Howard's cameo started doing the rounds after Endgame's opening week, it was still incredibly difficult to spot on that initial viewing (and to this day, it's still a relatively unknown detail), with the VFX team later revealing that even the movie's directors didn't notice him in their first couple of screenings, due to Howard being inserted as something of a last-minute joke.

Sadly, we don't get to see him in any action shots (those 18 frames are all he gets in the movie), which might actually be a good thing, because the blowback on that oversized gun he's carrying would probably send him into orbit.
