10 Subtle Movie Homages You Definitely Missed

9. Marcellus Wallace Crossing The Street - Pulp Fiction (Homage To Psycho)

Quentin Tarantino has included enough homages, nods and references to other movies in his filmography that he could have easily filled this list on his own. However, in terms of subtlety, this moment from Pulp Fiction definitely flew under the radar of most people, so just takes the cake here.

In the fractured story, one of the arcs includes Bruce Willis’ Butch Coolidge, a boxer on the run from the mob after refusing to take a dive. He thinks he’s got out clean, only to see mob boss Marcellus Wallace crossing the street. Butch tries to run him down, and things only get weirder from there as the pair end up trapped in a sex dungeon.

Although the Pulp Fiction scene is much more grisly, a lot of it is airlifted out of Alfred Hitchcock’s Psycho. In both scenes, a man wanders into the middle of the road and slowly turns his head to peer into the car. The ending of each scene differs drastically, but both slowly eke up the tension in their own way.

That’s not the only time a popular movie has paid tribute to Hitchcock either...
